I wrote, illustrated, recorded the song and self-published “The Cows Go Moo!” for a few reasons. Most importantly I was inspired by my daughters Olivia and Sophia who said, “Dad, you should turn that song into a children’s book!” That was enough to get the ball rolling. The original song was written by me and some friends for skit night at summer camp when I was in high school. I added some new verses and recorded the song in the studio. That’s me singing lead and playing drums and cowbell! My daughter Sophia and her friends are singing backup vocals! Being able to combine my love of humor, art and music has been awesome. One night when I was reading Blake (the guy who started TOMS) Mycoskie’s book, “Start Something That Matters” I was inspired to do the same with my book and the “Buy-A-Book / Give-A-Cow!” project was birthed. I know that as we partner with Heifer International, whose mission is, “to empower communities to end world hunger and poverty and to care for the Earth,” we can make a difference. As I have the opportunity to share my book and song with every reader and listener, it is my hope to celebrate life, humor, art, music and cows! I also want to impart the message that if you utilize your gifts and are committed to the process, anything is achievable with hard work and encouragement from those around you! Moochas gracias for joining the Moovement and for all those who’ve cheered me on! - Jim
